Lumière Cinématographe mechanism

Description

This motorised mechanism was built on a 1:1 scale.
Some of its parts are transparent so that visitors may see how the film is driven inside a Lumière device.
Pressing the push-button starts the mechanism, at first in slow motion, then accelerating until it reaches its normal operating speed.
This mechanism was built for the Lumière! le cinéma inventé (Lumière! Inventing the cinema) exhibition at the Grand Palais (Paris). It is now displayed at the Musée Lumière (Lyon).
